What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Running, spending time with my family, swimming, shopping, breakfast picnics and going to the movies.
How do you live a healthy lifestyle?
Nutrition is key and daily physical activity. I eliminate foods that do not benefit my body and I use online fitness tools to do my workouts from home.
What inspires you to make healthier choices and live a healthy lifestyle?
Waking up and feeling good. Going to bed and feeling good. Being able to enjoy things with my kids that I would have missed out on. Living life more fully inspires me to keep going and continue to commit to my health.
Do you have a success story you would like to share?
Over a year ago I was mentally and physically exhausted. I made a decision to move my body for just 20 minutes a day. That was just the start of it. In a year I lost 90lbs and continue to work toward my goals. It feels amazing to show my boys that our health is important and irreplaceable and show them that valuing your body and mind is very important.
Katie has made a remarkable transformation in her lifestyle and health this past year, losing more than 80 pounds and gaining energy. The mother of two active boys, she wakes at 4:30 every morning to exercise before getting to the office at 7:30. She is following a nutrition plan that emphasizes green smoothies, plenty of water and balanced nutrition. She is a true wellness warrior because she inspires others in the office to walk with her during the day, and she pairs with a friend in Engineering to exercise in the stadium at lunchtime.
The Wellness Warrior Award is a peer-nominated recognition of individuals on the UF-UF Health campuses who make strides to live better by making healthier choices. The award is an acknowledgment of the determination and dedication it takes to live a well and healthy lifestyle. Wellness Warriors are individuals who lead by example, encouraging those around them to also make healthier choices.
